SalMar Settefisk in Follafoss, part of SalMar ASA, is one of the largest salmon producers in the world with its production of 10 million smolts (fry) a year. When expanding its facility with a new RAS (recirculating aquaculture) system Primozone® was chosen to supply and design the complete ozone water treatment solution for the hatchery.
The Primozone solution was specifically requested by both SalMar Settefisk and Nofitech, the designer of the RAS system, as they thought this was the best available option on the market. SalMar already had a Primozone ozone installation at a different hatchery and was aware of the advantages, while Nofitech has 25 years of experience in designing land-based fish farms and knows the importance of a well-designed ozone solution.
Cost efficient solution
Primozone has a unique competence in both designing and providing complete ozone systems that are very efficient considering energy consumption, oxygen consumption, dissolution and redundancy. Increased productivity Good water quality is a prerequisite for good smolt quality, and in the same way, that good smolt quality is one of the main prerequisites for a safe and efficient production of farmed salmon. Research shows that the water quality improvement gained from ozone water treatment at RAS improves smolt growth and thus increases productivity. This is acknowledged by SalMar who says that they have seen a decrease in mortality at Follafoss since the installation of the ozone solution.
