While chlorine has historically been used for its low cost and availability, studies have shown that chlorine produces harmful disinfection by-products (DBPs) that threaten public health and aquatic ecosystems. As environmental regulations tighten, both industrial wastewater treatment plants and municipal wastewater treatment facilities are increasingly turning to the ozonation process as a safer and more reliable solution.</p>
<h2 data-start="1092" data-end="1151">What is the Ozonation Process in Wastewater Treatment?</h2>
<p data-start="1153" data-end="1499">Ozonation is a water treatment technology in which ozone (O₃) is generated on-site using an ozone generator and dissolved into the wastewater stream. Ozone is one of the most powerful oxidizing agents available, capable of breaking down organic and inorganic pollutants while inactivating microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoa.</p>
<p data-start="1501" data-end="1717">Unlike chlorine, ozone decomposes back into oxygen, leaving no harmful chemical residues. This makes it an attractive option for facilities that want to improve effluent quality while reducing environmental impact.</p>

In many cases, it is integrated as the final polishing step before discharge, ensuring compliance with strict discharge permits. Ozone can also be combined with other oxidants in Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) for even stronger treatment performance.</p>

<p data-start="2122" data-end="2478">A complete wastewater treatment system typically involves pretreatment, primary and secondary treatment, and advanced disinfection. Biological and mechanical filtration are effective for reducing BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand) and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) at high concentrations, but achieving safe discharge levels often requires an additional step.</p>
<p data-start="2480" data-end="2602">This is where ozone wastewater treatment delivers clear value. By applying ozone in the final stage, facilities can:</p>
